Just a week ago, March 11, Japan was struck by a 8.9 magnitude earthquake that causes a huge Tsunami that almost erased some of its parts in the map.
I was in school when I heard it happened. I could still remember the exact words that came out to my classmate's mouth when he announced it in class "Wala na burado na Japan sa mapa". The first thing that came into my mind was my aunt living in there. I got kind of worried cause "burado na sa mapa" sounds like a huge Tsunami filled the ENTIRE Japan with water. When I got home the first thing I did was told my mom and we checked out for my aunt online. Everyone in the family was trying to contact her and fortunately (THANK GOD) she's fine. She's already at the evacuation center when we talked to her.
The whole world stopped and watched all the happenings in Japan. Some were worried, especially those who has family living in Japan. Some were horrified by the scene. Others couldn't even believe it while some don't mind at all. It's all over the papers and televisions. And even became a trending topic on twitter. Everyone was showing their sincere sympathy over Japan and trying to help in their own little ways. Countries around the world showed Japan that they are not alone in the disaster that happened to them. And that help will never ran out of their way. AND I THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD. People trying to help, showing their concerns and praying for the unfortunate ones, I thought it was pretty good that in the moment of disaster PEOPLE FORGET about everything, no races, no nation and progeny just same people who lives in the same world as we do. Kind of a perfect picture of a PEACEFUL world, eh?
But seeing what happened in Japan and how the world reacted and reacting upon it made me thought of one thing. I thought what happened in Japan isn't really new. We've been in great disasters since the past, I mean famines and great flood have been long written in the book of Genesis. And up until now, we're experiencing same things. And every time it happens we also do the SAME THING. We help and that's all. Its not that I'm against helping, I'm just saying that maybe helping is not enough, that maybe its not all that we need to do. I thought maybe we're missing the whole point. Maybe its not about being there, helping and praying for the people who got struck by a disaster but more on being together in doing ways to prevent such things from happening again. Maybe we all need is to take care of the world we're living in.
I've heard a lot of people say what happened in Japan is a "wake-up call". But wake-up call to what? We never cared to find out or if we do, we don't even care to do something about it. There has been A LOT of "wake-up" calls that ringed our entire world and we never get to pick it up and answer it. We just leave it there, saved in our "answering machines" ready to be deleted when the call had long gone.
In things like this, we obviously need more than just doing something about it AFTER it happened. And surely the world needs more than just being all over the news with people watching in sympathy, or people blogging about it telling how horrible it was that happened, or make it a trending topic on twitter telling to pray for the affected ones though some never really do. We need more than that. Maybe the point in all these is for us to help each other out and make this place we live in a healthier one and a perfect place for our future dwellers where wonders are all over the place and not forests without trees in it or rivers with no water flowing or skies colored gray, drowned and polluted.

WHY NOT WE MOVE RIGHT NOW AND PLAN A WAY HOW TO MAKE THIS PLACE A BETTER ONE?
